Fun Outdoor Games Whether in the summer or during the winter it is always refreshing to get outside for awhile. Playing games is a fun way to spend your time outside and is a way to take part in the lives of your children. Kids grow up so fast, it is hard for us as parents to remember that we need to make time to play together too! Outdoor games can be fun and simple. Most of the games described below you will not need any special supplies that you will have to go buy. Remember, kids are great at making up games as well. Make up your own fun outdoor game together and let your kids help make up the rules of the game! Below are some favorite outdoor games that I think you and your family will enjoy! Blind-Squirt Tag – Pick a person to be “it”. The “it” person is blindfolded and given a
Candy Target Toss – Using sidewalk chalk draw a large target with point values increasing for each circle as you draw smaller circles inward. Depending on the age of the players stand away from the target and use candy (starbursts work great for kids, or coins for parents) to toss at the target. The idea is to try to get the highest points by aiming for the smallest circle in the middle of the target. Target Toss: Winter Version - Fill several spray bottles up with water and food coloring. Make each bottle a different color of water. Spray/draw a large target on the snow using the different colors of water for each point section of the target. You can use snowballs to throw at the target, or bean bags. Hint: Make the target large and colorful so you can see it in the snow! Come Closer, Come Closer – This is best played at dust or dark, in a designated area like the back or front yard. Pick a player to be “it”. They must stand on a base (use a rug from the house) in the middle of the designated area. The rest of the players then hide while “it” closes it’s eyes and counts to 20. “It” can then guess where the others are hiding (ex: Joe is behind bench). If “it” has not guessed anyone correctly he will say, “Come closer, come closer”, and then close his/her eyes again and count to 5. Everyone then moves a few feet closer. Continue this until all the players are guessed correctly. The goal is for you not to be guessed and to try to sneak to the base that “it” is standing on without being caught.
Blob Tag – Two people connect their elbows together and they are “it”. They run around and try to tag the other players. Once you have been tagged you join the blob by connecting elbows at one end of the blob. The tricky part is only the end arms of the blob are able to tag someone. There are many fun outdoor games for kids and parents to play together. Take a break from your everyday routine and have some fun outside laughing and playing!
